The first edition of Sakka Ten took place in Abano Terme (PD) on November 2002. It was organized in collaboration with the “Associazione Euganea del Bonsai”(Euganean Bonsai Association) of Padova and the local administration, receiving the patronage of the main institutions.

During the event it was possible to visit an exposition of 56 samples of high quality bonsai and suiseki which came form all over Europe; assist with specific seminars with Master Tomio Yamada, Susumu Sudo and Hideo Suzuki; watch the demonstration of the Masters and attend the conference held by Professor Giangiorgio Pasqualotto, who teaches aesthetics in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the University of Padova.

16 demonstrations held by bonsaists from all over Europe were also presented.
 
Outside the area committed to the congress events, there was a bonsai market.
